You've decided you want to start a blog. One of the most important choices when you're starting out is How To Find A Profitable Niche For Your New Blog. We'll explore that here.

How To Find A Profitable Niche For Your New Blog

In this post we will be discussing where you’ll fit as a blogger.  What niche will you be in?  What do you want to write about?  You want to make sure whatever you write about that you are passionate about it.  Your readers will feel it and you will enjoy it more.

What is your favorite thing to talk about with friends and family?  What are your hobbies?  What do people come to you and ask your advice about?

These questions will help you decide in what direction your blog should go.  There are blogs about everything from chicken coops and cats to DIY, couponing, and empowerment.  You can blog about anything, it’s your blog and your voice.

If you blog about what you’re passionate about you will build a following, people will find you.  Just like before when we talked about people coming to you to ask your advice, people online will come to you for the same.  So, be true to you.  If you don’t cook,or craft, don’t write about that – people will know.  I have recipes and crafts on my site but, most are guest posts from other blogger who DO craft and cook.

If you have kids and you want to write about that that’s awesome, if you are good at saving money and want to write about that, do that.  If you like cars or monkeys and know about that – go for it.  Just enjoy what you write about and your readers will, too.

Here are some profitable niches that might help give you some ideas:

Frugal

A frugal blog can actually write about many different topics.  You can write about how to save money, how to make money, and expanding on that how to save money at the store, or major purchase, on everyday purchases.  A frugal blog can even write about frugal meals and share recipes, or frugal activities for kids, frugal dates, and more.  To me, the sky is the limit on this one.

Finance

A finance blog will help you learn how to save money, spend money wisely, or even how to live on less and not feel like you’re living on less.  Other topics include organizing your finances, investments, bill paying methods, methods to save for large purchases, and more.

Deals

A deals blog… well shares deals!  Deals on anything from food to clothes, and from home decor to travel.  If you are someone who loves a good deal and your friends and family always come to you when they need to find a deal, then maybe this is the one for you.

Lifestyle

A lifestyle blog is about almost anything, you can blog about your kids, your relationships, DIY, travel, recipes, share tips and tricks for every day living.  If it applies to life, then you can blog about it on a lifestyle blog.

DIY

A DIY blog can blog about any Do-It-Yourself project.  From decorating to crafting to building.  Anything you can think of to Do-It-Yourself!  Readers will be looking for all kinds of projects from easy to difficult, so you can do a lot with this one.  If you like to find a better way or make a better thing, then this might be your niche!

Recipe

Well this one is self explanatory.  If you love to cook, abke, and create in the kitchen, then this might be your niche.  Recipe blogs are all the rage now as people want to get in the kitchen and learn how to up their dinner game.  Readers will be looking for plenty of yummy recipes from breakfast to dessert, they will also look for great photography to get their creativity flowing, too, so be sure you learn more about that, as well.

Craft

People are always looking for ways to make meaningful gifts for others as well as how to spruce up their own lives with handmade items.  These can be anywhere from frugal to expensive. If you like to make gifts for others this might be your niche.  Readers will be looking for simple crafts and extravagant ones for all seasons, holidays, and occassions.

Home Décor

A home décor blog is much about showing you how to decorate, rearrange, and make a living space better.  If you find yourself constantly making changes to your home this might be the niche for you.  Readers will be looking for ways to update their living spaces as well as renovate.  You can go from small rearrangements making a space feel larger to actual construction and be right on target for this niche.

Gardening

A gardening blog is one that is all things gardening from flowers to food.  If you have a green thumb and enjoy being in the garden this might be the niche for you.  Readers will be looking for ways to grow food and other plants in all sorts of spaces indoors and out.  You can talk about planting flowers all the way to picking and arranging, as well as planting vegetables and harvesting and even storing and using them in your favorite dishes.

There are many, many more  profitable niches for your new blog to choose from, but, the point of this post is to get you thinking and help you figure out what you would LOVE to talk about and what you’re passionate enough to put in the time and effort.

Your assignment is to think about what niche you should be in and also what you think is a good name for your new blog.  In the next post we’ll be discussing naming your blog and how to proceed from there.

Be sure to read all of the posts in this How To Start Your Own Blog series.  Don’t miss any of them or you could be setting yourself up for failure.  Each one is as important as the next.  Remember, you’re skipping all of the mistakes I have made over the years.
